The Roots tribute to the late J Dilla whose legacy is still influencing a generation of beatmakers four years after his passing. They interpret 14 of tracks. All are beautifully done – from the fierce snare on ‘Hall and Oates’ to Miguel Atwood-Ferguson’s wonderful strings on ‘Antiquity’. Download and enjoy by clicking on the cover
DJ Center talks about the creative process behind the making of his debut album ‘Everything In Time’. It features collaborations with Renee Nuefville, Gretchen Parlato, Zaki Ibrahim and Middle Child. We featured ‘You Got The Love’ on this week’s show. Expect to hear plenty more over the coming weeks. For more information click here
American comedienne Wanda Sykes makes her own version of Erykah Badu’s ‘Window Seat’ video. To see the original click here
Bilal’s solo project is due soon on Plug Research. Here he lend his sublime vocals to Shafiq Husayn for ‘Cheeba’ from his En A-Free-Ka album.
‘Change Situation’ the new album from Grooveman Spot is out now. Like his previous albums he blends soul, hip hop, jazz and house music. Includes collabs with Kissey Asplund, Ahu and Erik Rico.
The debut single from Andreya Triana’s forthcoming album (of the same name) is produced by Simon Green aka Bonobo. A beautiful, subtle slice of jazz and folk-inflected soul, ‘Lost Where I Belong’ is effortless-but-understated. The remix as featured on today’s comes from sometime associate and collaborator Flying Lotus who takes the original vocal out into the (LA) galaxy – all space fizzes and filtered drums. Check the video for the original version.
Max Tannone flips Mos Def dubwise stylee!! Click for cover for a free download.

Bruk bad bwoy Ceramic releases as a single for the first time ‘Bodyshock’ on Eye4Eye Recordings. Another great release from the guys over at Melting Pot Music. This time it’s Gin Diaries from Suff Daddy. There are thousands of beatmaking Dilla clones on MySpace but only one Suff Daddy. “Suff” means “drinking heavy” in German and his favourite drinks are Pilsetten and Tanqueray. Suff Daddy grew up in Düsseldorf (the city of Kraftwerk), listening to the 90s hip-hop-collection of his older brother. His favourite group back than were Tha Alkaholics. He caught the beatbug after he moved to Berlin five years ago, inspired by Quasimoto and Jaylib.
